We are currently looking for a Business Manager with a strong background in learning, innovation and/or technology, as well as experience in operations and finance. Reporting to the CEO, this position will be responsible for reviewing our organization’s functions and building processes that meet our strategic vision. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and be able to communicate the vision of our organization across all levels of the organization, as well as to external stakeholders.

 

Situated on the protected east coast of beautiful Vancouver Island, Nanaimo offers one of the mildest and sunniest climates in Canada. The Nanaimo region boasts many forests, mountains, rivers, lakes and, of course the ocean, making it the ideal place for year-round recreational pursuits. You can truly hike, golf, sail and ski all on the same day for many months of the year! Who would not want to live and play here?!

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Business Administration, Learning Technologies, Technology, and/or Finance
  • Additional training in sales, marketing, management, business, communications, product development and sales management, online marketing and/or social media is preferred

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum five years’ experience as a Business Manager or relevant role
  • Experience with forecasting models

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES AND PERSONAL SUITABILITLY

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead teams
  • Thorough understanding of diverse business processes and strategy development
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, databases, information systems and project management software
  • Good understanding of research methods and data analysis techniques
  • The ability to interpret financial data and allocate budgets
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify business performance benchmarks and employ strategies to meet these benchmarks while ensuring organizational growth
  • Analyze current and past business trends including all areas of revenue, cost of sales, expenses and capital expenditures
  • Lead quarterly business reviews
  • Maximize the efficiency of all organizational practices and procedures
  • Ensure all systems operate smoothly, comply with legislation and government contracts, and align with our quality standards
  • Lead day-to-day operations and deliver on strategy and operational plans from the planning process against the strategic vision for the company
  • Ensure the organization has adequate & suitable resources to conduct its activities (people, materials, equipment etc.)
  • Build strategic partnerships with new and existing stakeholders
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

 

 

Hours:                   Full time

Wage Range:      $70,000 annual salary plus benefits after 3-month probationary period (note this is a salaried position, not based on an hourly wage)
