ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field: Business, Marketing, Public Relations, or Communication

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 or more years of community engagement experience; marketing experience highly desired
  • Strong background in forming and maintaining professional relationships with community interest groups including service providers, employers, government agencies, and educational institutions
  • Possess highly developed written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with experience in presenting to groups
  • Self-directed; ability to take initiative
  • Training in, or excellent working knowledge of, all Microsoft software applications; Adobe Photoshop and/or other design programs is preferred

  2. Develop a strong understanding of the WorkBC services / support in order to highlight the benefits of these services in the community
  3. Able to handle confidential information with discretion and adhere to professional guidelines (including those in the Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Practitioners)
  4. Demonstrate proficiency in computer application with an understanding of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Access), and the Internet, in particular using the Internet as a LMI and Job Search tool
  5. Research employment and career related labour market within the community
  6. Work independently and with others in a team environment
  7. Demonstrated skills in group facilitation and delivering clear and concise information to the Community about the WorkBC services
  8. Utilize excellent communication skills including conflict resolution and teamwork

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports to:  WorkBC Manager

The Community Engagement Coordinator is accountable for cultivating strategic partnerships through community outreach activities. The Coordinator is the first point of contact with the community and it is their responsibility to foster relationships with service providers, community agencies and prospective clients in the Cowichan Valley. Through such efforts as presenting to local interest groups, attending community events, and one-on-one meetings, the Coordinator will build positive relationships and ensure that community members have a comprehensive understanding of the services available at the Duncan WorkBC Centre.

The Coordinator is responsible for implementing and overseeing the Community Outreach Plan by identifying new initiatives and opportunities. The Coordinator will work with the Aboriginal Liaison and the Labour Market Specialist to assist with marketing materials and to strengthen relationships with key stakeholders in the Cowichan Valley.

Responsibilities:

Community Liaison:

  • Effectively demonstrate the Ministry’s online Employment Services (OES) application process within the community
  • Developing and implementing Marketing Plan for the purposes of contacting and engaging stakeholders in order to raise public awareness and promote the benefits of WorkBC Employment Services
  • Increase awareness of WorkBC services among service providers to facilitate and increase client referrals
  • Maintain regular contact with community associations and organizations
  • Other duties as required

Administration:

  • Ensure WorkBC statistics and data entry are maintained
  • Provide regular updates to WorkBC Manager on work plans and activities

Job Sustainment Services:

  • Have a strong working knowledge and in-depth understanding of employment services needed to support Clients along a successful path toward employment that is sustainable.
